705.10 (d) (6) LICENSURE Fire safety.

(d) Fire drills. The residential facility shall:
(6) Prepare alternate exit routes to be used during fire drills.
|
Observations The facility failed to document the use of alternate exits during monthly drills from October 2018 through September 2019 based on a review of fire drill records on October 24, 2019.

|
Plan of Correction Alternative exits were not utilized for the fire drills during this review period.
A Request for Exception was submitted for Gateway Rehab-Westmoreland #657055. There are three possible exit routes from the unit for fire drills: 1. Front exit 2. Frick Hospital Main hospital exit - the hospital does not want Gateway Rehab to use the main hospital as an exit route during fire drills. 3. Another exit route that requires patients to exit through the back of the unit and down sets of stairs. This may be difficult for detox patients and patients with disabilities.
The front exit will continue to be utilized for fire drills until a decision is made regarding the Request for Exception.
The Program Director will monitor the results of each fire drill based on the decision and recommendation of the Request for Exception. If the exception is not granted the facility will ensure that alternative exit routes are used during fire drills.
This deficiency will be corrected by 12/31/19. |
