Observations Based on a review of the client record and administrative documentation, the facility failed to have a sufficient number of staff persons with CPR certification.
According to administrative documentation, there were three staff members who were CPR certified that were working when an unusual incident occurred. One of the CPR certified staff members responded and began to perform CPR. A second staff member was requested to get ready to take over CPR; however, this staff member did not step in to relieve the first CPR certified staff member. It was reported the second staff person was not CPR certified and did not know how to perform CPR.

Plan of Correction Effectively immediately, the facility has revised its emergency response procedures to ensure that only staff members with a current CPR certification are designated to perform CPR during emergency
situations.
To strengthen compliance and ensure ongoing staff competency, the Nursing Supervisor has become a certified CPR instructor and will provide CPR certification and recertification training for facility staff. Additionally, CPR training manikins have been purchased to facilitate hands- on skills training and competency validation.
CPR certification records will be monitored by the Human Resource Coordinator and reviewed regularly to ensure certifications remain current. |
