709.28 (a) LICENSURE Confidentiality
§ 709.28. Confidentiality.
(a) A written procedure shall be developed by the project director which shall comply with 4 Pa. Code § 255.5 (relating to projects and coordinating bodies: disclosure of client-oriented information). The procedure must include, but not be limited to:
|
Observations Based on observation of medication administration, staff and client interviews and a review of the policy and procedures, the facility failed to maintain client confidentiality as required by facility policy.
The facility's policy manual states that "the names and addresses as well as all other information and records pertaining to clients are not to be disclosed except with the explicit written permission of the individual(s) involved."
Client medication administration is conducted in a support staff office. This office was observed to be very busy with both staff and clients entering and exiting the office frequently. The door was observed to be open and closed frequently. Both staff and clients were interviewed and it was reported that the door does not always remain closed when clients are taking their medication, making the conversations between client and staff able to be heard by others waiting in line for their medications.
|
Plan of Correction Procedures for observing self-administration of meds will be updated to reflect the use of a sound shield in the hallway and self-administration will occur only after door is closed and locked to prevent unwanted access by other individuals. Re-training for all staff affected will be completed by the director or designee by 11/15/23. Ongoing monitoring will be completed by random inspection by the director or a designee during the med times established for the residents. |
