Observations Based on an inspection of the food storage areas on June 28, 2023, the facility failed to follow their Project Management policy #709.54 in regards to the receiving, storage, and preserving of food items. The facility's policy states that all non-perishable items shall be dated when received, and placed on the shelf with older item's being brought to the front. The following expired items were observed in the dry food storage pantry: three boxes of Breakfast Essentials containing drink mix packets, two boxes of Malt O' Meal Coco Wheats cereal, and a bottle of sugar-free syrup. Additionally, none of the items in the dry storage pantry were labeled as per the facility's policy. This was discussed with facility staff at the time of the investigation.

Plan of Correction The food will be labeled when it is entered into the facility with purchase date and expiration date. It will also be logged onto a checklist that will be maintained by the kitchen manager. Weekly, staff will inspect the food storage area with the checklist and get rid of any food that is expiring. The checklist will list purchase date as well as sell by/best by/and expiration dates. Facility Director will randomly spot check this list to ensure that the procedure is being adhered to. |
