§ 717.24. Medication control and self-administration. The licensee shall develop and implement written policies and procedures on the use of prescription and over-the-counter medications by residents, which must include: (1) Self-administration of medication for residents who take medication. (3) Safe disposal of unused, expired or abandoned medication, in accordance with State and Federal regulations. (4) Emergency procedures if an adverse medication reaction or overdose occurs on premises. The licensee shall have and make available overdose reversal medication on the premises of the drug and alcohol recovery house at all times. (5) Prohibition on sharing prescription medication.
Observations
Based on findings during a complaint investigation it was determined the recovery house failed to develop and implement written policies and procedures to allow for the use of prescribed medication including medical marijuana.

The above information was discussed with the recovery house manager during the complaint investigation.

Plan of Correction
Rios Recovery has written new policies and procedures regarding to allow the use of medical marijuana. Medical marijuana will be observed and handle just like any other maintenance program and the Cannabis will be locked up and secured in a lock box if the manager wishes to do so and will observe the resident administer their medication. Medication dosage will then be documented in our medication log. Residents must provide proof of and updated medical marijuana card. These new policies will be given out to every recovery house and the old policies will be terminated.
