This report is a result of complaint investigation conducted on April 16, 2012 by staff from the Division of Drug and Alcohol Program Licensure. Based on the findings of the complaint investigation, the allegations made against Alliance Medical Services were unsubstantiated, however the facility was not in compliance with the applicable chapters of 28 PA Code which pertain to the facility. The following deficiency was identified during this inspection:.

Plan of Correction

709.32(c)(2)  LICENSURE Medication Control

709.32. Medication control. (c) The project shall have a written policy regarding medications used by clients which shall include, but not be limited to: (2) Drug storage areas.
Observations
Based on observation, the facility failed to secure the medication area. The findings include:On April 16, 2012, at approximately 9:45 AM it was noted the medication area was unsecured. Upon leaving the waiting area, there was a closed door that did not lock which lead to the medication area and the staff restroom. The door that was to be locked in order to secure the nursing area/medication area was left open. This was addressed with the two nurses and the acting director and was not disputed.

Plan of Correction
The door to the medication area was left open during the time of inspection.

The facility is required to keep the door to the medication area secure at all times.

The Physician Assistant has given a written reprimand and provided counseling to the nursing staff regarding this issue. In addition, the Director will install an automatic door closer to assist in preventing this from occurring in the future.

It is the ongoing responsibility of nursing supervisory staff to ensure compliance with this security issue.
