Based on a Relicensure Survey completed on January 26, 2021, it was determined Abington Memorial Hospital - Asplundh Surgery Center was not in compliance with the following requirements of the Life Safety Code for an existing Ambulatory Health Care Occupancy.

This is a two-story, Type II (000) unprotected noncombustible construction, which is fully sprinklered.

Means of Egress - General

Means of Egress - General
Aisles, passageways, corridors, exit discharges, exit locations, and accesses are in accordance with Chapter 7, and the means of egress is continuously maintained free of all obstructions to full instant use in case of emergency, unless modified by 20/21.2.2 through 20/21.2.11.

Observations:

Based on observation and interview, it was determined the facility failed to ensure means of egress were maintained free of obstructions, affecting one stair tower within the facility.

Findings include:

1. Observation on January 26, 2021, at 9:10 a.m., revealed a recycling receptacle, blocking the exit door, inside the Stair Tower.

Exit Interview with the Director of Plant Operations on January 26, 2021, at 10:45 a.m., confirmed the obstruction.




Plan of Correction:

The Administrator of the Facility is responsible for the corrective action and ongoing compliance. the recycling receptacle was removed from the stair tower at the time of survey.
Staff will be educated during staff meetings in the month February and March not to place recycling receptacles or any other objects in the stair tower. To insure ongoing compliance, the stair tower will be checked on a random basis by the administrator / designee to insure egress free of obstructions.
