INITIAL COMMENTS
 
This report is a result of an on-site licensure renewal inspection conducted on November 7-8, 2013 by staff from the Division of Drug and Alcohol Program Licensure. Based on the findings of the on-site inspection, My Sister's Place Thomas Jefferson University was found not to be in compliance with the applicable chapters of 28 PA Code which pertain to the facility. The following deficiencies were identified during this inspection.
 
Plan of Correction

705.7 (b) (1)  LICENSURE Food service.

705.7. Food Service. (b) A residential facility may operate a central food preparation area to provide food services to multiple facilities or locations. A residential facility that operates an onsite food preparation area or a central food preparation area shall: (1) Have a food preparation area with a refrigerator, a sink, a stove, an oven and cabinet space for storage.
Observations
Based on the physical plant inspection, the facility failed to keep frozen food at or below 0 degrees Fahrenheit in one of three freezers.The findings include:The physical plant inspection was conducted on November 8, 2013, at approximately 1:30 PM. The facility failed to keep the frozen food in the dining room freezer at or below 0 degrees Fahrenheit. The thermometer in the dining room freezer registered 30 degrees Fahrenheit at the time of inspection. Additional readings taken on November 8, 2013, at 2:30 PM and 3:30 PM, were also above 0 degrees Fahrenheit.The facility's cook confirmed the findings.
 
Plan of Correction
The thermometer was replaced on 11/8/13 and monitored for accuracy. However, there appeared to be an additional issue with the freezer; the vendor was called and the freezer was repaired on 11/12/13. All foods were moved to a different freezer on 11/8/13 to avoid possible spoilage. The temperature is monitored, charted, and initialled on a daily basis by staff. this log is in the Cook's office. Any variance in the temperature that exceeds the regulations(above 0 degrees) will be immediately reported to the Residential Director and the Cook who will, in turn, contact the vendor for repair. Additionally, the freezer equipment is checked by the vendor on a yearly, or as needed, basis.
